With just a few days before the National Research of the Philippines (NRCP)-hosted international conference, Dr. Marieta Bañez Sumagaysay, executive director, guested on DZRH Radyo Henyo’s episode last Sunday, 11 June 2017, to pitch the awaited gathering of Asian researchers starting Wednesday till Friday (14 to 16 June 2017) this week at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC).
The conference billed “the 17th Conference of the Science Council of Asia” will convene around 400 researchers and scientists from countries Bangladesh, China, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, and the United States. With an overarching theme “Science, Technology, and Innovation for Inclusive Development,” papers and posters are organized into six sub-strands tackling a range of topics including environment, “one health”, and disaster risk reduction, and to social, inequality, and gender issues.
It will feature renowned speakers such as Prof. Toshio Koike, International Centre for Water Hazard and Risk Management director; Prof. Anthony M. Juan, Jr. of the University of Notre Dame, Indiana USA; Prof. Fortunato T. de la Peña, Department of Science and Technology (DOST) secretary; Dr. Renato U. Solidum, Jr., undersecretary and Philippine Institute for Volcanology and Seismology director; Prof. Dr. Jiba Raj Pokharel of the Nepal Academy of Science and Technology; Dr. Meryl J. Williams of the Asia-Pacific Fish Watch, Malaysia; Dr. Josefino C. Comiso, National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) senior scientist; and National Scientist Lourdes J. Cruz, to name a few.
